This Abandoned 108-Year-Old Ship (SS Ayrfied) Has Turned Into A Floating Forrest-Island
If you spend one day in Homebush Bay, on the southern bank of Parramatta River near Sydney, you will witness a sight rarely seen on our green earth. The bay is a former cemetery of ships that have been decommissioned. But out of all the ghost ships that you can see, one particular one will catch your eye.
Covered in a dense forest of mangrove trees, the 108-year-old shipwreck has transformed into a veritable floating island with its own ecosystem.

The 1140 tonne monstrosity of a ship has been originally built in 1911 and was originally called the Corrimal. It was used to carry coal between the cities of Sydney and Newcastle throughout the 20th century. During World War 2 it was reassigned as a carrier for the military and renamed SS Ayrfield.

Towards its final years, the ship was abandoned in Homebush Bay where it was to be dismantled for iron scarps. However, the dismantling work came to a halt at some point and the ship was abandoned to mother nature, who took her in and embraced her.

Years down the road the freighter was fully covered by dense vegetation and trees, and the green floating forrest-island / metal-monster hybrid became a place of attraction for many tourists in the Sydney area. An impressive sight to see, indeed, as you can see below:
