Athena Orchard, from Leicester, England was not your average 12 year old. People who knew her described her as incredible bright and strong. But no one really knew how truly strong she was, until after she passed away.

She was a very active girl who loved sports (she used practice boxing), writing and helping look after her brothers and sisters. Unfortunately tragedy struck on Christmas 2013, when she collapsed in her kitchen all of a sudden. They rushed her to the hospital where she received the grimmest of news: she had bone cancer.

She underwent a seven hour surgery where doctors removed the tumor from her spine. For months on end she had to endure chemotherapy treatment. The once energetic and full of life child was now mellow as the aggressive treatment was taking its toll. But she was a fighter.

Despite the hardships, she was always positive. Even when in hospital, should take care of her mom, looking after her and making sure she ate, trying to comfort her telling her not to cry. She was a warrior. Unfortunately the disease was merciless, and as it advanced aggressively Athena became too weak to get out of bed.
