Any woman driving through Lithuania on International Women’s Day may have to do it with the police on their trails, and very few of them will complete their journeys without being pulled over on the side of the road.

The cause for this abrupt intervention by the authorities is not to hand out fines or write tickets for some broken rear light. On the contrary, the Lithuanian officers stop every woman driver in traffic to hand them flowers and celebrate the public holiday with an affectionate gesture.

Most of the women pulled over with a dumbfounded expression on their faces only to burst into laughter as soon as they saw the police officers handing them tulips instead of tickets. The pictures of this remarkable action from the Lithuanian police won the respect and admiration of internet users everywhere.
