Most people who view ethnic diversity as dangerous also do not like it to be a part of their community. However, they will turn a blind eye when shopping for groceries by disregarding the origin of their favorite foods.

The German supermarket Edeka chose to fight this form of hypocrisy in a unique manner. Its Hamburg branch took all non-German products off the shelves for a single day to show just how poor the offer would be without them.

The result was astonishing! Most of the canned goods, fruit, vegetables and even meat products were gone. Most aisles were empty or boasting only a few alternatives to everyday foods.

Incoming customers were baffled at the result that taught them once again that the richness on a supermarket shelf is given by embracing ethnic diversity and fighting discrimination.

As a side note, the beer aisle remained mostly unchanged during this eye-opening event. 🙂
